Receipt Generator — FAQs

What is the difference between a receipt and an invoice?
An invoice is a request for payment — sent before payment is made. A receipt is proof of payment — issued after payment is received. In practice, many African small businesses use the same document format for both, noting "Payment Received" in the notes. This tool works for both purposes.
Can I generate a receipt with my MTN MoMo or M-Pesa details?
Yes. Select your country, switch to Mobile Money in the Payment Details section, and enter your provider and number. The receipt PDF includes your mobile money details just as an invoice would.
How do I make a receipt look different from an invoice?
In the Notes field, add text like "Payment received in full — Thank you!" or "Paid via MTN MoMo on [date]". This clearly marks the document as a receipt. You can also change the invoice number format to "REC-0001" to distinguish receipts from invoices.
Is this receipt generator free?
Yes — completely free. No account, no watermark, no hidden fees. Your business details are saved in your browser for next time.
Can I use this for GRA VAT receipts in Ghana?
This generates a standard professional receipt document. For formal GRA VAT receipts required by VAT-registered businesses in Ghana, you still need to issue receipts through the GRA's approved fiscal device or e-VAT system. Use this tool for non-VAT-registered freelancers and small businesses.
Which African countries are supported for receipt generation?
All 17 African countries available in the invoice tool — including Ghana (GH₵, GRA VAT), Nigeria (₦, NRS VAT), Kenya (KSh, KRA VAT), South Africa (R, SARS VAT), Zimbabwe (ZWG, ZIMRA VAT), Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and more.
