What should a freelancer invoice include in Africa?
A professional freelancer invoice must include: your name and contact details, the client's name and address, a unique invoice number, invoice date and due date, an itemised list of services with quantities and rates, the applicable VAT or tax, your total amount due, and payment instructions (mobile money number or bank details).
Should I add VAT to my freelancer invoices in Ghana, Nigeria, or Kenya?
Only if you are VAT-registered. In Ghana, VAT registration is required once you exceed GH₵ 750,000 in annual turnover (raised Jan 2026). In Nigeria, the threshold is ₦ 25 million. In Kenya, it's KSh 5 million. Below these thresholds, most freelancers invoice without VAT — set the tax rate to 0% in this tool.
How do I invoice international clients as an African freelancer?
Select your country for the currency and tax defaults, then change the currency to USD (or GBP/EUR as needed). Set tax to 0% for export services — most African tax authorities zero-rate services delivered to non-resident clients. Add your Wise or Payoneer account details in the bank transfer section for international payment.
Can I add MTN MoMo or M-Pesa as payment on my freelancer invoice?
Yes. Select your country (Ghana, Kenya, etc.) and the tool pre-fills the correct mobile money providers. Your MoMo number and account name appear on the invoice PDF.
How do I number my freelancer invoices?
Use a consistent format: a country prefix + sequential number, e.g. GH-0001, GH-0002. Afrinvoice auto-generates these and increments on each download so you always have a unique, traceable number.
